About Us

We are an Affiliate of the national Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation, an organization that is committed to education, advocacy, and raising awareness of childhood cancer. See our Mission Statement, which speaks loudly about who and what we are. The tag line for the national office says "...because kids can't fight cancer alone!", a very simple, yet very true statement. Without support, a family can easily fall apart. WITH support at many different levels, a family can turn their experience into a positive one and begin to heal. We at Brazos Valley Candlelighters hope to help families heal from a devastating illness.

Lindsey (a survivor) says...

"As a childhood cancer survivor, I just can't say enough about the need for groups like Candlelighters. So much of a part of healing comes from a positive attitude and a good support system. The ability to share your trials with people who are going through the same thing is such a necessary tool for the child and their family."

Melanie (a mom) says...

"There is no way to describe how your child being diagnosed with cancer turns your world upside down. However, knowledge allows a parent to feel like they have a sense of control in a very uncontrollable situation. There is also no way to describe how unimaginable the ordeal would be without emotional support from people who are going through similar circumstances. These families become a new family to each other and that alone is priceless. It is something that simply must exist for these families.
We are proud to be an Affiliate of Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation, a national organization with affiliates in every state throughout the United States.

We at Brazos Valley Candlelighters are indebted to them for their ongoing efforts to finding a cure for childhood cancer, as well as for less toxic therapies, that leave children with way too many long-term side effects. Cancer treatment for children has not changed in the last EIGHT years, which is another "unacceptable." Please take a moment to watch this video, then do what these precious little ones are asking you to do. Isn't it worth it?
